Sen. John Ensign " What I had to pay for to get"
Allegedly paid the woman a $25,000 severance when she left his employment -- a possible violation of campaign law.
If that isn't enough, today we found out that Ensign funnelled $96,000 to his mistress, her husband and their children through his own parents! Furthermore, Doug Hampton says Ensign's housemates at a Christian fellowship home in Washington -- fellow Republican legislators including Tom Coburn (R, OK) -- were the ones urging Ensign to break off the affair and hush it up. Open Letter Completely self-centered and only thinking of myself. I used you for my own pleasure.
God never intended for us to do this. I walked away from Him and my relationship .
Not to mention the voters of course one could view that as retreating in another direction.
Defender of Marriage--Except His Own
A born-again Christian, Ensign has been a member of the Promise Keepers, a male evangelical group that promotes marital fidelity
It's apparently not working
Governor Palin "what I say I am"
She fancies herself a modern-day Douglas MacArthur, tapping his "We are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction" line to help put a public relations spin on her give-back of the governor's seat. John McCain's vice presidential running mate added she's seeking a "higher calling" to unite the nation along conservative lines because it's "about country." That's like Governor Jindal wants his state to leave our nation and higher calling is an new way of saying higher status and more money . Wapped in the robe of religion.
Of course one can not forget Huckabee who just thought we should trash our Constitution and draft new one it would be cheaper.
Which like Crist's donations may not have been at church function but in question just the same.
Does the term war profiteer ring a bell?
Just an little back groundGothard has as one of his front groups a program called "Cities of Character"--this being a program where city governments dedicate themselves to running their towns under
Gothardite principles (including the use of the Character Counts! curriculum in public schools, a very lightly stripped version of the "Basic Course" taught in
Gothard seminars).
Some very good exposes of this program include the Talk to Action article
"Developing Dominionist Cities" and especially
Silja Tavli's Cult of Character. (
Huckabee, of note, also attempted to push this program throughout the whole of the state of Arkansas.)
One of the earlier "scores" for
Gothard was in 2000, when
the city of Cincinnati, OH passed a formal resolution declaring itself a "City of Character"--an officially
Gothardite Town. (
Cincy was also a focus of "Cult of Character"; the Queen City, along with
OKC, were pretty much the "
demonstration cities" for
Gothard's programs.)
Part of the resolution showed how
Gothardite training would become mandatory for law enforcement,""Police Dynamics Institute" One might want to research

Gothard's would be done on TV and in the business world: Sold on E-bay.
Concerns were in part sparked by
a letter from Midwest Outreach to the Conference of Character Cities concerning whether city governments may be getting kickbacks from
Gothard for their "Character First!" programs, and requesting a full list of cities that may have received donations in that regard.
(Midwest Outreach is a mainstream Christian group fighting coercive groups, including coercive
neopente organisations; Midwest Outreach also has one of the more detailed exposes available of the actual content of
Gothard training materials.)

The married father of four emotionally apologized to his wife, staff and others at a news conference after returning Wednesday from a trip to Argentina that followed a days long absence.
His staff had said the Republican was hiking on the Appalachian Trail.
Sanford says,
"I've let down a lot of people."
Late tonight, emails have surfaced between Governor Sanford and his alleged mistress 'Maria' in
Argentia.
CLICK HERE FOR EMAIL TRANSCRIPTSIt was revealed that his marriage counselor had accompanied him on a trip to NY where he had a liaison with his mistress (apparently approved by said counselor?
His mention of C Street as the source of the counseling (it didn't ring a bell), and now with Ensign’s connection to the group it’s getting some press again.
It’s not really bad couples counseling that we need to worry about – it’s the mission, world view .
Mark Sanford, himself a visitor and a kind of honorary alumni at C Street, compared his political difficulties involving his affair with an Argentine woman to those of biblical King David .
Now joined in his troubles by another C Street member, John Ensign.
The group literally has locked down their records to even prevent their own from looking into the archives and discovering potential skunkworks;
"The Family" locked things down in part to prevent anyone from confirming Sharlet's research--or doing research on their own.
Our question is--just what has Sharlet written that has "The Family" so panicked as to put restrictions on their own archives akin to what the US government uses for information they want to keep even more restricted than "top secret"?
Why hide the info even from their own membership?
The list of information that is now inaccessible includes many of the audio reels of the National Prayer Breakfast, as well as--interestingly (and possibly one reason the archives were sealed) the records regarding the sale of the apartment complex "The Family" rented out for its "member" elite:
One other note worth term:
The group's approach to religion, Sharlet says, is based on "a sort of trickle-down fundamentalism," which holds that the wealthy and powerful, if they "can get their hearts right with God ... will dispense blessings to those underneath them."
Trickle-down Economics Hummm where I heard that before??
Governor Crist " What I will never will be"But to understand that with Mr. Crist, is always looking to the next job. He's given up each of his statewide posts — education commissioner, attorney general and now, governor — after just one term to seek higher office. Which is strangely the path Governor Palin's on.Charlie Crist raises $4.3 mil for Senate race
Florida Gov. Charlie Crist announced his plans to run for the U.S. Senate on May 12. Fifty days later, Crist has amassed a campaign war chest of $4.3 million -- or, as the campaign put it, $86,000 per day.I've noticed Charlie Crist seems focused on his ability to raise money. To bad he was not ably to do the same to fix even an few of the issues in Fl. Such as the flooding problem , high property taxes , No funds for the public schools through out the state as well as paying teachers salaries.Over crowded prisons besides shipping inmates out of the state where the voters still pay as well as cost to get them there . His abilities appears to be in showmanship and talk.I mean just think about it.This is being used as way to gage the mark of a Leader and Achiever $86,000 a day was used to fix the issues the voters of Fl.would fight to vote for him. But this is not the case. And not surprise enough even donations of the past collected are in question.http://blogs.usatoday.com/onpolitics/2009/07/charlie-crist-raises-43-mil-for-senate-race.htmlSarah Palin called Charlie CristAmong the GOP leaders Sarah Palin called before announcing her resignation as Alaska governor? Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, someone who apparently can relate to her lack of interest in serving a second term as chief executive. ABC:
"GOV: Telephone Call Into Governor Crist," reads a May 4 entry in Palin's schedule. A spokeswoman for Crist said she did not know who had initiated contact, or what the subject of conversation was to have been, but the two did not speak."It was a courtesy call. They know each other, both being governors," said Crist spokeswoman Erin Isaac.
Crist may have had his own reasons to chat with Palin: to promote his candidacy for U.S. Senate, which Crist launched one week after Palin's phone call. Maybe to ask if Fl. inmates can be sent there.Nine days later, Crist announced an endorsement by Sen. John McCain, Palin's 2008 GOP ticket-topper. http://blogs.tampabay.com/buzz/2009/07/palin-calls-crist.htmlCharlie
Crist says more sun will shine on his campaign cash
How much do you plan to raise in the Senate campaign?
Crist: “I don’t know. You know, it’s a race that really is about people and about public service and trying to work hard for my fellow Floridians every day.
How is raising vast amounts of money helping the voters such as flood with every storm? And just what public service?' You ,mean the vast signing of bills for photo op hopefully on the way out the door. When is agenda shows very few hours.Gov. Former U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering, What my wife is suing my alleged mistress for .
"alienation of affection."
A few weeks ago I wrote about the strange involvement of the highly secretive evangelical "leadership" group "The Family" in the adultery sagas of both John Ensign (who lived at The Family's C Street townhouse on Capitol Hill and negotiated with the wife of his mistress there) and Mark Sanford (who apparently was counseled on his marital and extra-marital issues at the same place). Today's news brings the revelation of another adultery scandal involving a Republican pol who was very close to The Family: former U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering, once a big-time rising star on the Right, whose estranged wife is
suing his alleged mistress for "alienation of affection.
" Her complaint in court claims that the affair was in full bloom while Pickering was living at "the well-known C Street Complex."
I don't know what's more notable here: the high prevalence of marital infidelity among the hard-core adherents of this quasi-theocratic group, or the fact that the publicity must be driving its leaders completely crazy.
In any event, the "C Street Complex" is beginning to appear as something of a house of questionable repute.
And I'am running out of room in my cartoon.
Maybe ishould have named the artical All in the Family
